Cold Lake Food Bank Canada Summer Job Information

  • Start Date: May 20, 2026

  • Contract Period: 8 Weeks, 35 Hours Per Week

  • Hourly Wage: $18.00

 

To comply with the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program, all applicants must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred.

  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number.

  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Special Assist

Food Bank operations

The Special Assistant is part of the operational backbone of the Cold Lake Food Bank - responsible for ensuring the smooth and compliant running of daily operations alongside the Operations Manager. The Special Assistant supports the Cold Lake Food Bank in operating efficiently, safely, and sustainably through assistance in logistics and internal processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1. Operations & Logistics

  • Assist in managing day-to-day food bank operations, including intake, inventory tracking, and distribution.

  • Ensure compliance with food safety and occupational health regulations.

  • Assist in procurement, vendor relationships, and delivery coordination.

  • Maintain facility and equipment to ensure safety and functionality.

 

2. Volunteer Coordination

  • Assist in recruiting, training, scheduling, and supporting volunteers.

  • Promote a positive and safe volunteer environment.

  • Assist in implementing recognition and retention activities.

 

4. Data & Reporting

  • Maintain client, donor, and inventory databases.

  • Assist in the preparation of operational summaries and monthly metrics for Board and Executive review.

  • Track and report on key outcomes, including food distributed and community impact.

 

5. Cross-Functional Support

  • Provide administrative and logistical support for fundraising events and community programs.

The Executive Assistant (EA) provides the Executive Director (ED) assistance in strategic, administrative, and community leadership to ensure the Cold Lake Food Bank fulfills its mission and vision. Reporting to the ED, the EA assists in organizational direction, fund development, advocacy, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

 

  1. Strategic Assistance & Governance

    • Assist the implementation of the Food Bank’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities in partnership with the Board.

    • Assist in the development and monitoring of annual operational goals and performance indicators.

    • Maintain effective communication with necessary parties, preparing reports and recommendations.

    • Ensure compliance with bylaws, policies, and legal requirements.

 

2.Resource Development

  • Assist in research, grant applications, donor engagement, fundraising campaigns, and sponsorship development.

  • Ensure transparent stewardship and accountability for all funds received and disbursed.

  • Assist with donor contact management.

  • Assist in building sustainable funding streams to support organizational growth.

 

3.Community & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Assist with cultivating partnerships with donors, government agencies, local businesses, Indigenous and community organizations, media, and the community at large.

  • Promote awareness, education, and advocacy on food insecurity issues.

 

4.Staff & Volunteers

  • Support the recruitment, training, and development of the operations team.

  • Champion a positive, inclusive, and collaborative workplace culture.

 

5.Organizational Development

  • Assist in the development and implementations of systems, processes, and policies are effective, transparent, and regularly updated.

  • Assist in evaluation and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Ensure the organization remains compliant with health, safety, and food-handling standards.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Knowledge of nonprofit governance and community engagement.

  • Mission-driven, compassionate, and collaborative.

  • Skilled in administration

  • Adaptable and proactive in problem-solving.

  • Strong Skills in Microsoft & Google programs preferred.
